Head cold before surgery

My lumpectomy/SNB surgery is scheduled for Monday morning but I have a head cold with fever (unless it’s hot flushes!). Is it advisable to go ahead? Has anyone else done this? I have to have general. Getting mixed messages from nurse

Hi Shona I wouldn’t panic yet. If it is a head cold you’ve still got 3 days for it to get better & often they do in this time. It won’t be the nurses decision I would presume it would be the anaesthetist who’d decide if you were fit for the anaesthetic. I had same procedure 2 weeks ago & you’ll be seen by the anaesthetist & have a chat before op. All the best & hope it does go ahead for you. Anita xx

I had head cold and was panicking away but rang the unit who said unless I was coughing the anaesthetist  would  review on the day, it all went ahead as planned.  Good luck x

The nurse would not be in the position to make a decision.
