Breast Cancer Care is planning a Health and Wellbeing Day for African and Caribbean people with primary breast cancer. This will be held in Birmingham.

We would like to know more about the kind of information you would find useful after your diagnosis, and invite you to come along for an afternoon to share your ideas. Breast Cancer Care has been asked to explain the background to this event.The team organising it tell me there have been requests through the helpline and other services for this.

African and Caribbean people have told us they have difficulties around issues such as accessing information around tinted prosthesis and culturally appropriate information around diet and nutrition.

Breast Cancer Care ran a pilot event for African Caribbean women successfully in London as a response to these requests. As we do not want to assume the needs of African Caribbean women in Birmingham are the same as those in London, we are running a focus group to ask locally affected women what support and information Breast Cancer Care can provide.
