Finished 4xAC,4xTax 4 weeks ago, and had to go for echocardiogram today - had three of these now, before, during and after chemo. All ok for the last two, but today, I’ve been put on Ramipril (an Ace Inhibitor - according to the net!) cos my hearts not pumping as much as it was before chemo.
She says its only a little down, and wants to see me again in three weeks - in the meantime I’m off to Portugal for a week, which she says is fine - but I’m cacking it again - just seem to get over one thing and then something else is thrown at you.
Anyone else had this?? I’m trying to be positive and be glad that at least they’re keeping an eye on me, but hey, heart problems I could do without!!
Thanks for listening to me rant - not something |''m inclined to do tooo often.
I replied on the other site but will reply here too in case it helps others. I have had a lot of chemo over the years and when I was put on herceptin 4 yrs ago have been having regular heart scans. My baseline wasnt brilliant - at 56% and have had lot of fluctuation over that time. From a low of 42% to a high of 68%. Last year I had problems with feeling dizzy and heart racing but my oncologist, although he thought an ace inhibitor would help, was unwilling to prescribe without my seeing a cardiologist. Basically there wasnt a lot wrong with my heart apart from ectopic beats. My BP though was frequently high for me. Anyway the end result was that he recommended Ramipril in a low dose of 2.5mg because he felt it would help protect my heart. The drugs you have been on are know to be tough on the heart muscle so I am sure you will feel the benefit of taking this.
Thanks so much Dawn
I’ve been so out of energy, puffy ankles and half stone heavier each week, that I really hope this will help - I’m on 2.5mg too. Its just that initial thought of having something else to worry about, but I know once I get my head round it, I’ll be ok.
Thanks again, Its so good to hear other people going through the same.
Cheers
