Heartburn

Hi, I’m a lobular lady diagnosed Nov 06. A year ago I started getting heartburn and acid reflux but no pain and not waking up at night. It would last a while and then not reoccur for several weeks. I went to see a Gastro surgeon who sent me for ultrasound of stomach, liver etc. all clear, BUT he wanted me to have a Gastroscopy but i chickened out!

Now really worried that this may be a recurrence as Lobular is linked with gastro problems on relapse.

Anyone else had similar symptoms? Best wishes to all lob ladies, Grace T

Hi Grace

I too am lobular diagnosed Dec 06. About 4 years ago I started getting heartburn and acid reflux I went to the GP who referred me and I had a gastroscopy. I was told I had a hiatus hernia - a small hole allowng food at times to come back into the oesophagus from the stomach. I was given daily medication which worked wonders although I came off this earlier this year and (touch wood!) have not had too many bouts of it. I would imagine that yours is probably similar but do give the gastroscopy ago. It was unpleasant but not for long and they can give you a mild sedative for it.
Don’t forget we can still, unfortunately, get other things and generally they won’t be linked to the cancer.
Have a chat to your GP again.

Take care

i too had bad heartburn but was diagnosed with a hyatus hernia as shorty was, i have been on osrapole tabs which really help, also the onc told me that the treatment kick starts the problem too , so try not to worry and go and get the gastroscopy done and then it will put your mind at ease, you will be fine i’m sure ,so grit you teeth and sort it out, your stonger than you think hun…good luck

Hello Grace,
I don’t know whether you want to try a herbal remedy. I have used it for years and while on chemo. My Onc agreed it was o.k.to take while having treatment. Ginger capsules.
I buy them online from Zipvit. I have lots of friends who have thought they had serious stomach problems with binge drinking then developing acid reflux.
I have given them some ginger to take every day and they no longer have a problem. I always carry some in my handbag just in case I get heartburn or indigestion it works and is a natural product. It may be worth a try.
Hope this helps.

Same here, except my heartburn is due to the Tamoxifen. I’m going to see my GP next week.

Thank you Jugsy, I will try the Ginger. i am loathe to take yet more tablets each day so the herbal remedy could be the one to go with. Thanks to the other girls who had gastroscopys. I am afraid I just can’t face it at all, I know thats really cowardly but I can’t even swallow pills. I will try Jugsys remedy first I think but I do worry that this is related to the cancer, as I have read several things about Lobular metastasing in the digestive tract. Will try to calm down  best wishes to everyone.

Hi Grace

Do try the ginger but still consider the gastroscopy. I’ve had one done and you are so sedated you can’t remember a thing. The last thing I remember is them giving me the sedative and then I woke up back in my bed in the ward. I gather that is the norm - can other people confirm that? It sounds as if it is the only way you are going to get any peace of mind.

Take care Kay x
