Heat rash on back

Hi
Just diagnosed last week, cancer in right breast 28mm, biopsy taken of lump and lymph, awaiting result. Ive had a heat rash on back directly behind where cancer is for a while and starting to think this is a symptom of the cancer spreading. Is this usual.

Hi hucky345

Thank you for posting.

It’s understandable you are feeling concerned having recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Sometimes it’s easier to talk this through on the phone, so do call our helpline if you prefer.

You may not yet have all the information about your breast cancer as you are still waiting for results. Some tests can take longer to report than others. You can ask for a copy of your pathology report to read through with a member of your treatment team. Our booklet Understanding your pathology results may be helpful for you to read.

Having a heat rash on your back is not a common symptom of breast cancer. However, it’s important to tell your team about the rash. Stress and anxiety can make you feel nervous, worried and sweaty, which could also be contributing to your symptoms as heat rash is usually caused by sweating a lot.

You mention you are concerned about the cancer spreading. Nearly everyone who has been diagnosed with cancer worries about the cancer spreading and you are not alone in being anxious about this. The uncertainty and fear is very real. At first, every symptom like an ache or pain may frighten you, but most people find the anxiety lessens as the time goes on. Do talk to your breast care nurse about how you are feeling so they can support you.

As @Tili mentions the people on our online forum are there for you. We also offer a range of free supportive services for anyone who has had a diagnosis of breast cancer which you may be interested in. They include face to face and online courses and events.

Talking to someone who has had a similar experience can often be helpful. Our Someone Like Me service can match you with a trained volunteer who’s had a similar experience to you. You can be in touch with your volunteer by phone or email and they can share their personal experiences to answer your questions, offer support or simply listen to how you are feeling.

As mentioned above, please do call our helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The helpline team have time to listen, talk things through and signpost you to more support and information if necessary. Your call will be confidential, and the number is free from UK landlines and all mobile networks. The number is 0808 800 6000, If you have hearing or speech difficulties prefix our number with 18001 and the call will go through Relay UK. Our helpline has access to telephone interpreters if language translation is required.

If you would prefer one of our nurses to call you. To do this, please complete this form by ticking the box agreeing to a call back.

Our usual opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and 9am -1pm on Saturday.

Out of hours you can leave a message and we will call you back when we next open.

Best wishes

Grete
