Does anybody know if there is anything you can take to help with heavy periods during chemo ?
I have had my first FEC and i am dreading my period as they are heavy anyway without the chemo . I have been taking transamic acid to help prior to chemo but i am presuming this will not be allowed - anyone got any useful tips ?

Hi. I had the same problem too and have used Tranexamic acid for a long time. I had one light period a few days after fec1, and so far this period hasn’t arrived. I’m about two days late now and don’t think it’ll show. My onc did say that I should hit the menopause now, and I think she could be right.
Tha chances are, age related, they’ll stop.
My periods are normally very heavy (I too have tranexamic acid prescribed). I was anxious cos normally I’m a fullfat tampon plus pads (sometimes has to be replaced in less than an an hour) and I felt i should avoid tampons cos of increased risk of TSS. Anyway my first period was manageable (lighter than normal) and my second was lighter still and a week late. It’s probably chemo induced menopause - I’m 51 anyway so is to be expected altho my mum didn’t get her menopause 'til she was 55. I’ll see what my third chemo period is like …
Mine have been odd. Had a very light one on 20th Mar, then another more normal one on 11th Apr, so not the regular 28 days that I used to be. About to have FEC3 so let’s just see what happens.
My daughter has painful periods and has been prescribed Feminax, mefanemic (?) acid. She says it helps a bit, better than ibuprofen, but would like something stronger.
Hi
With a bit of luck (if you can call it that!), periods will stop after FEC 2 or 3. Mine stopped after FEC2 and has not been seen since! And that was nine months ago…
Sorry, can’t be of any further help.
