Hello everyone - My mother was diagnosed with a inoperable reoccurance of breast cancer in 2002, she has since been on Arimidex, until the start of the year when she was told it had spread to her lungs. at this point she was changed to Tamoxifen. Since then she has been told it has spread to her bones, so she started monthly injections to help with this (cant remember the name). Since then it appears the tamoxifen isnt working and she is now on Aromasin (Onc doesnt feel that there is much hope of this working though) and has susggested to consider oral chemo(xeloda)in the near future. I suppose my question is - Has anyone else had 3 different hormone tablets with success and is she losing time on the aromasin (which may not work)when she could be having oral chemo.
She has been told the spread is now in spine, ribs, collar bone, lungs and liver. Thank you in anticipation
Hi Claire, I was diagnosed with bone secondaries in 2003. Tamoxifen worked for a while, Arimidex worked really well for nearly 3 years but my next hormonal, Aromasin never really worked at all and I only stayed with it for 4 months before starting Xeloda, my first chemo, in Spring 2008. I have found it to be a ‘kind’ chemo, you don’t lose your hair and I feel really well and currently have no active cancer. Once breast cancer has spread all treatments will eventually fail, but some treatments can work well for a long time, I know others who have been on Xeloda for years.
Take Care…both of you…xx
Hi Belinda, Thank you so much for sharing your experience, it sounds similar to my mam. She is due back at the Onc 18th November, so will hopefully find out how she is doing with the latest hormone, then maybe start Xeloda (i keep forgetting all the names of the different treatments). Its encouraging to hear youre doing so well. Thank you
