Help again

Hi again
Posted a few days ago with problems I am having after my lumpectomy on the 2nd Feb mainly fluid leaking from the wound under my arm. Well i have been on low dose antibiotics over the weekend and so far no change. Went back to doctors again today as my breast feels like a brick has been left inside it and has increased in size. Doctor still not shaw whether it is infection or a hematoma. He told me not to worry and sent me off with stronger antibiotics. I rang my breast nurse who said it would be looked at on wednesday when I get my results and said that the worst that can happen is that the hematoma will push through the stitches and there will be so much blood it will look like i am dying.
Well that really helped - not. Now i am really worried - has any one had a hematoma ? Like I need any more worries with the dreaded results coming on Wednesday.
Thanks Lv Melx

Hope it clears up with these anti-bs xx

Hi Beardie,
You say you have fluid leaking from under your arm, is it yellow or just a little pink rather than frank blood? If so it could be seroma a collection of serous fluid from the lymph system. I have had this following axillary node clearance ANC 2 weeks ago and have it drained painlessly twice a week. If it is it eventually settles down and may need draining a couple of times or sometimes for some weeks/months. When the lymph nodes are removed it affects lymphatic drainage and the fluid accumulates in the tissues and may need draining as it may affect wound healing and become infected I was told. Hope this is so in your case, it is a pain having to have it drained but the nurse puts a cannula in through my numb SNB/ANC incision scar takes the needle away leaving the fine tube in place and syringes the fluid away totally painfree. I have had this done twice so far and having it drained this afternoon. It does feel more comfortable after for a few hours.

Always call your Breast Care Nurse or the ward if you have just been discharged post op as they will give you best help if something is worrying you.
