I am due to have my OP in August probably the 3rd week in August and was hoping to be able to have my holiday in October middle 2 weeks that would mean starting my radiotheropy 10 weeks after my Operation has anyone else waited this long between Op and radiotheropy.
Obviously I would love to have my holiday It has been booked since january and thats what has kept me going all through my treatment. We were supposed to be going to Tenerife with our friends and their family we have booked a large luxury villa I would hate to miss it.
Hi
I was dx in may had WLE and SNB in june, re excision in july and I havent started any treatment yet despite having grade 3 invasive. I have hol booked for middle Sept, and they have said I can go because I dont see onc to even discuss treatment until 9th sept. Apparently have to wait 6 weeks after op to heal at least thats how its done at Carlisle where i’m having treatment. I’m sure you’ll be able to go. Hope all goes well with op and you have great holiday!

I had my op (WLE and Node Sampling) 25th Jan and started my rads 18th March but I know others who have waited longer after surgery for their rads to start… speak to your breast care nurse and see what she says.
Hi I have answered on your other thread

Hi
I had my op (lumpectomy & axillary node clearance) three weeks ago, and at my follow up last week was told that my rads planning/consult appt would come through within 4-6 weeks (so 6-8 from op). Not sure how long between planning and actual rads tho. I’m sure if you speak to your BC nurse, you’ll manage to work something out. Have a great time,
Ax
Hi,
in my area there has been a 12 week wait for rads and my surgeon said he would be unhappy for any of his patients to wait so long. Perhaps you need to check whether this might affect your prognosis in any way. Every case is different but he said 6 weeks tops, but you have to balance that with people having treatments in different orders, which might make a difference
Good luck though

I had my WLE and SNB on 3rd July, rads planning on 31 July and rads start on 12 August. Apparently they like to start rads 4 weeks after results. I asked if I could delay a couple of weeks (rads is moving to a hospital much closer to me) and they said better not. I am stage 1 grade 1. I’m sure it varies in different areas - your BCN’s will be able to advise you better - you may need a longer gap for healing after lymph node clearance?
I waited ages after surgery before I had radiotherapy as I had a wound infection and they won’t do it until your scar heals. people who have chemo wait even longer as they usually have surgery, then chemo then radiotherapy.
Radiotherapy is designed to mop up any cells in the breast which could have been missed by surgery. There may be more the longer you are kept waiting but provided there’s not a large lump of them it should get rid of them.
I’ve not had any recurrences since I was diagnosed five years ago. NB I was diagnosed with a grade 1 tumour and DCIS round it at stage 1.
Chatting to a friend on wednesday - she had WLE and node clerance followed by radiotherapy way back in1999 and is fighting fit!
