Help - I really hope it's not happening again

Hi,

First of all although I have been a member of this site for quite a few years I very rarely post so I really do hope I have put this topic in the right category.

I was diagnoised with BC in July 2004. To cut along story short was messed around for 18 months with Breast discharge, tablets etc. Then in June 2004 the surgeon decided to do a mamogram. I was then called back for scan and core biopsy. Two weeks later I returned to clinic all alone to be told the terrible news that it was DCIS and because of the large area infected had to option but to have a mastectomy five days later. Went for my results and again was horrified to find out that there was a grade three 20mm tumour involved that had not been picked up on the mamogram and they also removed one lymph node which was infected. So after 21days in hospital due to complication I had to return for further surgery for full lymph node clearance.

I have just attended my yearly oncologist appointment and because I have now got discharge from the left breast, and the last two weeks I have been very tired and suffering bad headaches but only at night time. I have also over the last two months had two very heavy periods and spotting in between so the oncologist has done lots of blood test, I am booked in for a head scan next Friday and am just awaiting an appointment for a mamogram and to see the gynachologist.

Spoke to my breast care yesterday and I really do not know what to do. I have talked about having a mastectomy done and a double reconstruction I am just so wooried that its just like before and I don’t really want to mess around for another 18 months.

Sorry to go on a bit but I would love to know if there are any others on the site who may have experienced similair situation.

Thanks for reading

Hi Nik,

What a nightmare for you. But I guess that this time there won’t be any messing around, esp as cons is already talking about mx and recon. You dont say how old you are, but you must have been through chemo and rads too, so you know what’s coming which although strangely comforting, is extremely scary. Hopefully this time there will be a better picture of what’s going on - i had only a 2 month messing around - in that time I had ultrasound x5, FNA, corebiopsy x2 & MRI, so what started off as ‘a bit of DCIS’ turned into widespread high grade DCIS iand grade 3 26mm tumor with lymph node involvement. I’ve had a mastectomy, recon (LD flap) and start chemo tomorrow.

I think you’ve posted in the right section - don’t worry - if I get it wrong the moderator moves it!!
You could also try’ local recurrence or new primary’ too…

good luck and I really hope it all happens quickly for you this time. Even quick seems slow though doesn’t it!
