Help - triple neg and not happy

Hi girls,

I have had a mastectomy and ANC.
Went to see my onc yesterday to discuss my treatment plan. When he was going thru my notes and prognosis etc, etc, he mentioned that my cancer was v.serious and I have around a 50/50 chance of the chemo working as I had so many nodes involved (14/23) and therefore the likelihood of it spreading elsewhere was v.high. Also, I had four small lumps (all removed with mast), one of which was very close to the chest wall and he said that there wasn’t the clearance around the cancer that they usually like to see. I am also triple neg.

I am worried about treatment if I do get secondaries as not sure how they would treat it … am I in the s**t or what…

Really scared for the future…I start chemo next weds.
A xx

Hi Andrea,

Sounds like your onc is a bit of an ar*e if you ask me. He/she sounds quite insensitive to be honest and I really feel for you. I’m all for these docs not hiding anything from us but even so…

Anyway, enough of my rant! I’m so sorry to hear that he/she has got you worried about secondaries and a reccurrence already. I had extensive lymph node involvement but never once have I been told what you’ve been told. My onc has always been incredibly honest with me but also very positive. I know many people who have had loads of lymph nodes involved yet, so far, have never had a reccurrence.

Personally I’m not triple neg but I know there are loads of fellow forum users that are, so I’ve no doubt you’ll get some good advice and hopefully some positive stories. Perhaps you could call the bcc helpline and discuss some of your fears with them. I have rung them a few times and have always found them to be very helpful.

I wish you well as you prepare to start chemo. Be sure to take good care of yourself and please keep in touch,

Take care,

Kelly

Thanks a lot for your feedback Kelly. I just wanted my onc to be honest with me so I knew the facts up front.
Anyway, starting chemo next week so if there are any stray cells it’s gonna get them good and proper!

Hope all goes well with your rads and your house.

A xx
