hi
i’m having chemo, on 2nd fec just now, i put in a sick note last week and another this week for monday and tuesday because i went back to work on wednesday.
should i have been paid any sick pay for last week, i was off all 7 days.
is it worth going to work on and off, are there rules like you dont get paid for the first 4 days? ive never had a sick note before so i dont know whats for the best financially. i’m going to be having this chemo until august, then rads, so i’m thinking it might just be better to stay off although i dont want to do that, but i dont want to be skint either ?
any ideas?

Hi Angie, i can’t help re rules as it will depend on your organisations policies, you shouldn’t be penalised for trying to work though, that sounds mad! for me I get paid any days I’m sick up to 6 months, i’ve just started chemo and I have a 4 month fit not from doc which says I may be fit to work but may not be and i am working when I can, maybe have a chat to your manager to see what you can arrange? Hi I worked through chemo 2 years ago I had chemo on Tues had rest of that week off then went in till next chemo I didn’t need sick notes whilst doing this as you self cert for first 5 days But you should get sick pay for those days, never not paid for first 4 days? I worked through as I would have gone on to half pay after 6 months and couldnt afford to do that. I do work for a large organisation though so not sure what would happen if it is a small company although you would think you should get brownie points for going in!!!
