HER2+ and need some buddies

Hi @fairycake

Sorry to hear all that has been going on with you. I can only imagine how you are feeling after what your son said, it’s always those nearest to us that hurt the most.

If you read many of the posts about Letrozole and aromatase inhibitors people have a variety of symptoms. The lack of oestrogen in our brain can cause us the feel low, have mood changes and other emotional feelings. I was on Letrozole for 15 months, more than a year with Herceptin. I was knee to continue for 6 months after Herceptin to see if that caused the problems or the AI. I feel it’s very hard to pinpoint what is causing an issue or is it a combination but an extra 6 months was hard going. I eventually spoke to a lovely oncology/radiotherapy consultant who understood what I was saying and the side effects affecting my life. I then swapped the Exemestane, which has been less problematic with joint pain, as I start moving is lessens. I struggle if I sit too long, long car journeys after sleeping, although I toss and turn a lot. Hot flushes were still a problem and caused me to be fatigued from lack of sleep. I had a couple of different drugs to help and now on Venlafaxine which is an anti depressant and it has also helped with my mood.

There are options of swapping to another AI or Tamoxifen, if you fit the criteria and also other drugs that can help with side effects.

I wrote this to help others about my own journey with AIs

It might be time to call your team to chat about how you feel and if there is anything they can do to help. The BCN helpline is available m-f 9-4 and Sat 9-1 0808 800 6000. The nurses have more time to chat and may have some suggestions while you wait for your team to call ( if anything like mine, you leave a message and then callback once clinic is finished and can take a day or so to get back to you).

For some inspiration I wanted to link this
