herceptin trials anyone

hi has anyone been asked to do this trial. i have and wondered if you have what your thoughts are and what is your decision. thanks

Hi Jal - is it the herceptin/lapatinib trial ?

I was asked if I would go on that and didn’t chose to. I know I am a coward and that lapatinib is a wonderful drug but felt that I just wanted the herceptin.

hi what did that trial involve. i was told it was just herceptin no different but not sure. you just do it fo 6 months instead of 12.

Hi

It was a trial of herceptin and lapatinib. Lapatanib is only used on secondary cancer and they are looking at giving it to ladies with primary cancers.

It was a randomised trial with 4 arms: Herceptin on its own
Lapatinib on its own
Herceptin and Lapatinib
3 months of herceptin and 9 months of lapatinib (or other way round)

Your name would be put into the computer and that would decide which regime you would go on. I wasn’t brave enough but thank goodness there are ladies out there that are as we wouldn’t have the wonderful treatment we have now.

I was told that Herceptin doesn not “protect” the brain and it stops at the neck but lapatinib protects the brain.

Not sure what kind of trial they want you to do. I did sign up to a Herceptin one that I allow them to pass on my details for the next 10 years for research and stats I suppose.

hi all, herceptin is what i been on for the last 2 years , now gone through the brain barrier was lucky had brain tumour removed still on herceptin until trials comes out !!! with what i thought was tykerb !!!
which goes through to protect the brain ! fine out on 30 june monday i think ! when planning starts !

I haven’t posted on here for a while, i am due to start the Herceptin/lapatinib trial at the end of august when my chemo finishes.
I decided to go a head with the trial because it may offer a better protection to the brain if i get the lapatinib drug,
and i hope it will mean a few more check ups and scans etc to check its not spreading.

the trial is called peresphone or something like that. i was thinking of doing it but cant believe no one on here is so its putting me off. it started in 2005 and predicted to go on to 2011 they need 4000 people. any answers please. i am going to another post with different heading might attract people. i have to give my decision in on friday 11th.
