Can anybody help me with this question please. I have finished chemo 12 months ago, radio 8 months ago and my last herceptin was approx 8 weeks ago. I am so tired all the time and still have the runny nose and eyes. Are there any other ladies out there who are experiencing the same. Its getting me so down I feel like I’m moaning all the time about being tired.
Hi Dixons nope you are so not alone! Check the Stamina after Herceptin thread there are quite a few with the same problem. I am due my last one this Thursday and been signed off from work the past 3 weeks! I just got worse with time and though worked part time Mon /Tues /Wed I would just collapse into the chair when I got in and then by Thursday was so tired I barely moved till Monday! Not good but we are not alone , I was told it’s not as bad as chemo but wasn’t warned about this till I talked to chemo nurse who says yes it does affect some women this way. I have been told it will get better and someone on here said she was told 6 months as that’s how long it takes to leave our bodies. So just hang on in there it should get better.Just to make sure ring your bcn and have a chat to make sure that you aren’t anemic or something, sending you a cyber hug Em xxx
Hi dixons
After finishing Herceptin I expected to soon be back to my old self but I found I was some months recovering. Sometimes I had more energy than others. I went really down for a few weeks after about 2 months of finishing, as you have, and couldn’t understand why but my GP thought I’d done really well. If someone had told me what to expect beforehand I wouldn’t have worried but perhaps they don’t like to suggest time scales as we’re all different. Give yourself time, be kind to yourself, your body’s been through a lot.
Sending a hug to help get you through

Thank you Ami and Emmy for replying.
Thats me I work Mon, Tues and Wed half days and walk for about 20 mins every day and by Thursday I’m exhausted. This last week Ive just gone to work and come home and slept it just gets you down a bit doesn’t it. I’ll just go with the tiredness for now I’m lucky I only work part time. I’m at my GPs on Thursday so I’ll mention it then. Think we forget what our body has been through and I appreciate you both taking the time out to answer.
Hugs back to you and take care

Hi Dixons
I finished herceptin 20th Jan and have posted about the tiredness and runny nose…I have been back at work full time for twelve months and it has just got harder and harder…I hit the ‘wall’ about a month ago and am really struggling so I know exactly how you feel… as the other girls have said it takes time and we just need to be kind to ourselves…at least i have fewer tissues about my person now, lol!!! so that’s good! and as for the tiredness I feel 84 not 48!!
Take care and big hugs fluffy xxxx
Thanks Fluffychick
I think you just try and get back to normal and then your body says ‘hold on I’m not in the mood for this’ and bam your down. I was ok when I first returned to work it just seems to have crept up on me and then suddenly I feel burnt out and can’t pull myself back from it. I too use less tissues than I did which is a good thing so hopefully time will deal with the other issues. Just gotta remember we’ve been on a tough journey and it does take time to recover.
Lots of love and Hugs

I finished in January and also find that the stamina and fitness are struggling.
I was the one who mentioned it takes 6 months to “wash out” your system. I read that on the Herceptin technical sheet. Basically every time you have a dose when you have your next dose, half of the previous dose is left. So at the end of 12 months 6 months is left in your system and leaves over that time.
I returned to work full time in August last year and had my last Herceptin on 2 February this year. The runny nose has gone but even now sometimes by the end of the week I am absolutely worn out. Not as bad as as I was, but I think our brains sometimes forget exactly what we have gone through. I know everyone else does. They see your hair has grown back and you are back at work and think that everything is back to normal. If only they knew!
Just be kind to yourself and you will get there.
