Hi I was diagnosed May 2012 with grade 3 aggressive breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy and was told they removed a 5oz lump out of me. I have done the whole chemo and radiotherapy thing. I am now on Herceptin which won’t finish until Feb 2014.
Has anybody had any heart problems from Herceptin?
I have been put on a heart monitor as I am getting heart palpitations, chest pains and heart flutters. I was just wondering if this is a side effect of Herceptin.

Heart issues are a recognised side effect for some. I have had regular echocardiograms where they check the heart function to make sure it is safe to continue. I have had breathlessness and palpitations but am still in the safe limits. I finish on Oct 3rd so I hope it will be ok. All you can do is trust the onc’s expertise really, isn’t it? Scary but the benefits from this drug are well documented. I remind myself that more women died campaigning for it than from having it!

Hi I will also complete Herceptin in Feb next year. I had a right mastectomy and removal of nodes in November 2012 completed chemo in may. Am having regular Echocardiograms no cardiac problems slight swelling of ankles. Speak to your Nurse as Herceptin is known to have cardiac side effects maybe they will be able to reassure you.
