Hernia anyone?

HI All
Had my DIEP op 25th September so coming up to 6 weeks post op. In myself feeling ok and certainly find am able to do more each day. HOwever, I do have some one quite large hard lump on the line of my abdominal scar. POinted it out to nurse last week who said they will continue to monitor (have appointment tomorrow) but ring back for sooner appt if concerned. I’m not in any pain or particular discomfort but wonder if it is not scar tissue, whether it could be a hernia as this is one of the risks isn’t it? I do remember though my surgeon saying he hadn’t put a mesh in as he didn’t think it was needed - they put a mesh in to prevent hernias.

Has anyone else had a hernia?

Hi Debs here again twinmummy,just read this new thread - my surgeon pointed out 2 medium sized hard lumps under the scar area,he said he didnt want me finding them & thinking they were tumours ! He explained that sometimes parts of the fatty tissue die off due to lack of blood supply and thats what he thought they were.They gradually break down & go.Hope this helps till tomorrow,Im at the hospital too & will ask why my tummys distended.Bye for now …yes my op was on the same day xx

Thanks Debs - feelin reassured and will report back. My tummy still distended too - am wearing the cycling shorts but don’t really think it has gone down an awful lot, if at all, since I got out of hospital.

Hi Debs
Seems I have the same fatty tissue lump - indeed lumps as there are a couple of much smaller ones - that you did, so reassured about that, as long as they do disappear. Re distended tummy was just told to keep wearoing the cycling shorts and its still early days. NOt due now back at hosp for another check up for another 6 weeks unless there is anything I’m concerned about. How did you get on today?

Hi Lotty, good to hear from you too. Will keep posting with any more news on issue of tummies and lumps.

Hi to Lotty & twinmummy,how are you both doing?My scars are now healed up & dry thankgoodness.I still go to my PS every few days and he syringes my boob(blood) & sees what seroma is left in my tummy,as its getting less each time.I was wondering when we can wear normal bras also Lotty can you sleep on your side yet as Twinmummy can & for me its impossible lol.Im a beached whale still.Let me know all your news,take care both,Debs xx

Hi both -
have just sent a message to you Debs on another thread! I don’t have a prob sleeping on my side, but used to. I’m further down the line than you both. So don’t worry - it will soon be better!
