Hey! Wot the heck's going on????

Hi Ladies
Just wanted to start a bit of a rant really! Had 4 x epi and now 2 x CMF. Had a lot of side effects with epi and first CMF cycle, but this cycle I feel absolutely fine, just tired. Maybe they gave me a placebo coz I winged so much about the side effects!!! (only kidding).
The other thing is probably something to do with Murphy’s Law. I had cold cap with epi. Lost a little bit of hair but not noticeable. Not offered cold cap with CMF and my hair is just falling out. Come to terms with this but how come my bikini line is back with a vengeance!!! Will have to get the epilator back out!!

Hi Carly
Soooo weird, but crap too. I lost every hair on my bod on FEC, but the hair on my head went first, then brazilian, then eyelashes, eyebrows and even nose hair. It’s all growing back at a steady rate. You’re certainly getting a strange combination of symptoms. But perhaps you’ll have the hair loss for a shorter period of time. Are you prepared for the hair loss already (in a practical way - nothing can prepare you psychologically)?

Hi Sarah
At the start of Tx all I could think of was preserving my hair. Bought myself a fab wig which I do love to wear (especially now the days are getting colder). In eight weeks I’ll have finished chemo and so although losing my hair at this late stage is pretty naff, at least I know that it will soon stop. And if down below is anything to go by, my hair will come back thick and out of control… lol!!

I have a little turban cap to wear at night to keep my head cosy. I really do look like a ‘C’ victim in it so would never wear it if going out of the house. A friend has asked if she can buy my wig off me when I don’t need it anymore, because she loves it and has quite thin hair but I feel that ‘Ronnie my wig’ as I call her! has been part of my journey and I’d like to keep her for bad hair days.

Also had epi and just had 2nd cmf. My hair fell out fair quickly with the epi and no cold cap, maybe yours just took longer as you used the cap, they say there is no guarantee.

My hair is growing back now have a light covering of fluff and like you say everywhere else! is growing with a vengence. Strangely my eye lashes lasted all the way through but now have fallen out, i have decided that they are just making way for the lushess lovely new ones that will grow. Well hopefully.

I had a nhs wig but was tempted by some ebay sights and i now have 4 wigs for different moods, they are really good quality and only about £20.00 each i felt it was well worth it for a confidence boost. I don’t mind scarves at home or on my trips to the hospital, but my children like me to wear my wig when i am out and about with them.

Hello Birthday Girl!
I think you may be right and that the cold cap worked at the time. I have come to terms with the loss now. I’m having a bilateral mastectomy in January and to be honest a wig will be a lot less hassle than my own hair.
I bought myself a ‘bobbed’ wig much like my own style and now I’m getting use to wearing it I think I’ll have a bit of fun and be a bit more adventerous!! Never thought of trying ebay but will have a look now.

Thanks Gaynor

Happy Birthday once again!

Carly, you’re a lot more accepting of this than I was - good for you! I think you and Gaynor are absolutely right to try to make the best of this. Don’t forget the wig bank too - it’s a great resource.
Thinking of you, my hairless chums. It will come back before you know it.
