Hi Dippykate

Hi Kate

I read in a thread that you had skin mets 8 weeks after a mastectomy.

Can you tell me how this manifests itself. I am beginning to think my mastectomy scar doesn’t look quiet right. I would talk to the BCN but I have pestered her on other issues and I want to give her a bit of a break.
Thanks
Carol

Hi Carol, forgive me for butting in here but I developed skin mets 6 mths after a mastectomy. Mine manifest itself as what I thought were little red marks like flea bites - and as i had 5 cats I was not surprised. When my surgeon saw them (and fortunately i was due a 6 month check up at just the right time) he said immediately that they were a recurrence and he was right of course.

I had 2 separate patches of skin mets - one lot about 3cm above the scar line and the other more towrds the centre and higher up. One looked like ringworm - a fungal infection as it came up with red circular lumps and white in the centre. The other patch was just like red lumps - only about 3-4 mm across but they hurt and i could see them growing bigger.
Have you already had rads as that left me with strange marks across my scar?
Definately get it checked out though. I would try to see an onc so they could do a biopsy if they are concerned. Don’t worry about bothering the BCN - that’s what they are there for. However, I don’t think mine would recognise skin mets if she saw them so it depends on the experience and knowledge of her or whether it is best to push for an onc appointment.
2 oncs who saw mine in 1 day (i was having planning for rads that day so that’s why 2 people saw them) thought 1 lot was ringworm but both were convinced the other patch was skin mets and i had biopies done that day as well.
Good luck - hope it turns out to be something innocent.

Hi Kate

Get them checked out but, to reassure you, I was convinced I had skin mets and did actually have ringworm and a heat rash. I rang my bc nurse for advise and she looked up ringworm on her computer and it said it can start in areas of moist dead flesh and that was exactly the state of the underside of my breast after rads. The fungal infection can manifest somewhere else too. In my case, breast, arms and legs. It cleared up quickly. The first time I got it I used over the counter anti fungal cream as advised by a nurse at my doctors and the second time I dabbed surgical spirits on area and dusted with Vagisil powder. Don’t use s. spirit on broken skin!!!

Debbie

Thanks Ladies,

That helps, I do have similar looking skin rashes like yours Dawn so thanks for posting.
I think I will get these checked out.

Hi Carol

I also developed skinmets 6months after my mast., mine started off with 3 small spots spread across where my breast would have been they came within days and about a 1-2 weeks later most of the area was covered with them, they were various size.
Keep my fingers crossed for you
Please keep us posted
