Hi Newbie with a problem

Hi,
I had a mastectomy and a drastic breast reduction( from f/g cup to an a/b) 6 1/2 weeks ago.
After being hospitalized with an infection for 5 days, I was lucky enough to be told on Thursday I will not need Chemo or Radiotherapy for which I’m truly grateful.
The issue I have is I cant bring myself to look at the scars at all. I know I need to but can’t bring myself to do it.
Has anyone else had a similar issue or is it just me?
Thanks in advance
Catty

Hi Catty,

I understand - I am the same. Had surgery last Friday & can’t look or take my top off. I’m in a terrible state.

My sister put my “bra” on and I had to close my eyes. I feel battered from all angles. Would love to hear how people handled this. Can’t believe I’m just 39 with one breast.

:heart:sorry you both find yourselves here. Please be kind to yourselves and when you are ready to say hello to your new body you will, it is a very personal step after being diagnosed and then suddenly finding your self on the mother of all big dipper rides when you never expected to be on it  for me personally I had a therapeutic mammo plastic and then few years later a levelling up surgery (which unfortunately they bodged and I still have to have further corrective surgery) each time when I’ve been ready, I’ve stood in front of mirror and said hello to my new looking body, it’s was hard to let go of how I looked before but for me personally the will to survive overtook what I saw and it has been hard to accept but over the years that I’m very grateful I have I live to the fullest. Do. Still get self conscious - sometimes, can people tell - no because protheseis and evenly bra balancers and trulife balancers work well. You will find your way, it’s early days  do ring the nurses on here, others will pop on and share their story with you too  most of all to both of you, be kind to yourselves and you are still fabulous amazing you  don’t let it take your joy, it tries but don’t let it  breast cancer now and all of us have got you :two_women_holding_hands:ask away as much or as little as you need :two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

Anytime. I think it’s simply awful for us all! I find it hard to fathom that after such life changing surgery we’re just kinda “left”…
. I feel churned in and spat out. X
