holiday after rads

Hi i have just started my rads at Cheltenham, will finnish 12th sept then we are hopefully going to Spain to visit dad who has moved out there last year, have not seen his new house yet!

Any suggestions on how soon after rads it would be ok to travel etc we all (kids & hubby) all need a break, this one had to be cancelled earlier in year due to start of chemo.

Hi, I asked the same question to my Oncologist and was told it is OK to travel as soon as I like after rads. With chemo there is a slight increased risk of deep vein thrombosis, which is why flying is not recommended. There is not this risk with rads, but there is still the risk of skin reaction so the advice I was given was wait a week or two if possible, and be very careful not to expose the treated area to the sun if going somewhere hot. Spain will still be warm in Sept, I have got loads of bikini coverups and will sit under a parasol between 11 and 3 (with a nice long cocktail)

I hope you will have a great time xx

I went to America 10 days after finishing rads. Just what me and my family needed. Keep well covered up in the sun and drink lots of water
Hope you and your family have the break that you obviously need -Enjoy it!

I went to Portugal 2 days after the last rad, was careful in the sun, particularly with the affected area and everything was fine. That area went quite dark brown even though I never put it directly in the sun.

Hi I finished my rads on a Friday and flew to Spain on the following Monday, with strict instructions re skin care.Skin also went very dark but they continue to work up to 2 weeks after last one.
