Holidays from anastrozole...

Hi

Sorry if this is going over old ground (!) I was given a ‘holiday’  (one month) from anastrozole after 6 months of taking it and having quite severe side effects. I now feel so normal (I had not relaised how mentally clouded I had become) that I don’t feel like resuming it! I’m also on zoladex. I had  recurrence follwing primary stuff in 2009, with ANC in Jan 2013 (nodes involved, but not at first diagnosis). I don’t know what to do. I’m 54, wasn’t quite menopausal, thus zoladex, I’ve been promised exemestrane as alternaitve AI - will that have same effect. Should I go for oopherectomy? Anybody else had same dilemmas. All comments appreciated!!

Thanks

Maggy

Hello

I was on Letrozole for 18 months with s/e culminating in what I called ‘brain fuddle’ - I would hear the words of a conversation but no idea what they meant!! So I was changed to anastrozole and I’ve been on it for 2 years with very little problem. A bit of joint pain in the early days but taking joint supplements has sorted that one out, and I am pretty active - walk at least 3 miles a day with small dog.

It does seem that everyone reacts differently to AIs, so perhaps your clinic may suggest a different one.

good luck anyhow, hope you get it sorted.

Hi i am new to this site and was interested to read your blog. i also seem to be having problems with anastrozole having started taking it about 5-6 weeks ago. i only ever took thyroxine for 5 years prior to this with not a single side effect then BAM!  as soon as i start the hormone therapy things go a bit weird! i see my radiotherspy consultant tomorrow and my GP said to have a chat with him - will he be allowed to let me stop taking it for awhile to see if this has been the reason for these problems i am having? i know my GP is reluctant to let me stop taking it unles the hospital say it is okay. all i want is to sort this hiccup out and think about a return to work and normality!! thanks for listening! michele b.
