Hello all.
Christmas is gonna have a load of devilish temptations for us all. Just remember why you dont eat that stuff any more. There are alternatives heres some of my favourite recipes that get me through.
There’s a reason cancer survival rates have improved - modern treatments. I have no issue with people taking steps to have a healthier lifestyle - that makes sense for so many reasons. But a lot of the other stuff out there is likely just wishful thinking. If it makes you feel better, then fine, but please not at the expense of doing whatever your medical team recommend.
I do keto and intermittent fasting. On a week day I don’t eat until 3pm, then no food after 8pm, so 17hr fast. I would like to do 3 day fast every month, but so far I’ve only managed 24hours which I found REALLY hard! I’m having a few days off for Christmas (OMG I can’t wait for the Christmas pudding) then back on it for the NY x
Interesting thoughts…I don’t think I would be substituting medicine for any natural alternative or diet when it comes to breast cancer !
I agree diet and exercise does have an influence on an individuals health and certain foods might trigger some symptoms. Some foods are good at boosting our body functions I.e iron is beneficial to red blood cells and oxygenation etc….
But cancer is tough. It takes more than fruit and veg to kill it off. The famous Liz O’Riordan is a healthy eater and active, she is also “in the trade” (pardon the expression) and it hasn’t unfortunately stopped her from getting cancer. There are several others on this forum that talk about how very fit and healthy they are/were but they find themselves here with us.
I think you need to do the best you can to look after yourself, whether that be exercise, rest, food, drink or taking medication. So when you do fall ill your body has the right resources to help combat it. But personally, I don’t think a holistic approach will stop, treat or remove this type of cancer by itself but it will give you other benefits.
Morning everyone, internet with many posts here. I have found the Penny Brohn organisation really interesting and helpful info@pennybrohn.org.uk As they encompass the whole holistic approach. They have virtual classes covering a whole heap of things including nutrition meditation yoga and you can look at their resources incl research and books. You can have appointments with doctors specialising in this area Dr Solomon has been fantastic and nutritionists. They are a charity and ask for small donations if you access doctirs etc. I’ve found it so reassuring and helpful. My journey so far has been through this site, acupuncture and a medicinal herbalist. I’m currently signed up to Zoe which has helped me tremendously. The holistic approach is something that really needs to be more considered in western medicine. I’d love for BCN to form a group and do some research around this area.
My point with Liz was that she isn’t extreme enough. On the podcast I listened to she said 80/20 good to bad food. Whereas the survival stories I have heard take a much more extreme approach, where NOTHING else enters the body apart from raw food. I have heard stories of people who have cured it through weeks of water fasting too. Whereas Liz doesn’t see any benefit of fasting. My point was that she is ‘in the trade’ and has had breast cancer three times so whatever she is doing is not working and therefore how can she advise other people. I was a very healthy eater but I did drink every other weekend, and treat myself to cakes etc. I have a stressful job with very long hours, I don’t sleep enough, I hold onto grudges and don’t forgive easily. Theres a lot more to it than just diet. I’m hoping holistic approach works because I’m 32 years old with metastatic cancer in my ribs, spine, pelvis and liver. There’s no conventional treatment that will save me now, and chemotherapy will just destroy my immune system. Even if holistic healing doesn’t save me I think it’ll just be a nicer way to go.
Thank you so much I will look into this! Xx
Thank you for sharing! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in good health.
I have no idea whether there is benefit to be gained from raw food or fasting, but would caution that survival stories are just anecdotal. I am also worried that you feel your cancer is somehow your fault. It almost certainly isn’t, and making yourself miserable by excluding things you like could do more harm than good. It’s good to focus on wellness, but it’s also good to take medical advice.
No of course I don’t blame myself, but I did leave everything in the professionals hands and it hasn’t done me much good. From now on I’m going to take my own health and life in my own hands. I’ve had the best Christmas ever hosting my whole
Family at my house, eating too much cheese and quality street. In my opinion I can either live the rest of my short life drinking wine and eating cake and deriving whatever short term happiness that brings or I can be restrictive in my diet, cut down on working hours, do things that are good for my soul and hopefully live a little longer and enjoy this beautiful world.
I hope you all have had a lovely Christmas and happy new year
Hi @ lilly-daa44, Just wanted to reassure you that eating well doesnt have to be a chore or hard work. I learnt so much from the Penny Brohn nutrtion sessions (available online or in person). Its all about adding things not taking things away eg add pumpkin seeds and nuts or saurcraut as salad toppings, have a savoury breakfast, make flour free bread - so many brilliant recipe ideas on you tube, I still eat cheese, make cocoa and eat very dark chocolate. What i dont eat is highly processed food, or sugary cakes and biscuits. Love Tulip
Thank you I will check that out!
I really enjoyed carnivore diet, to be honest who wouldn’t enjoy a big fat ribeye steak everynight. What I struggle with is kicking my sugar addiction, even then I was eating honey
I start my three week water fast on Monday so hoping that’ll help me kick my addiction. Then back on carnivore or keto.
Has anyone used a GKI monitor? And if so what levels are you able to keep at?
