Not sure if posting in right bit, but I have heard 2 diff sides to whether its good to have Reflexology/Massages, Acupuncture, Holisitic therapies whilst having chemo? Have been told on one hand that its bad cos stimulates the cancer cells should any be there ( I am on chemo for preventing recurrance as my BC is gone and no evidence of spread so am on preventative treatment tho still gruelling)
Then again, I am told its a good way to make me relax, feel better and increase my energy levels which are completely zero along with my neutrophils which are heading that way after FEC2 at 0.2. Monday was 0.2, yest 0.5 and today back down to 0.2!!! Advice gratefully accepted, many thanks and lots of love and positive thoughts to everyone xxx
Hi Silvershar
I am enjoying reflexology, very relaxing nd safe. Sadly my cancer has spread to my bones and lungs so i am getting support from the fab local hospice. They will not massage me during chemo, but happy for reflexology, acupunctute and head massage (fab with no hair!!!) . All are aimed at relaxing and detoxing and reflexology is my fav!!

Morning Silvershar and Sadi, I had reflexology during FEC and found it quite relaxing. As with anything there are always mixed views and do hope what you have been reading Silvershar is incorrect!! Panicking now. MacMillan offer all these holistic treatments, so I would have thought it would have been researched by them. I am one of these that will try anything for comfort. Got my reflexologist booked for next week when have Taxol 2. Sadie glad it is helping you and good luck. Adi x
Hi Sadi and Adi, didnt mean to make you panic Adi and glad Sadi u are enjoyng, i can imagine how lovely it is on your head, my research was from Macmillans that reflexology good, but cant remember where i read it not so good, so toay i asked chemo nurse and she said not to do it, but like the cold cap diff hospitals have differnt views so dont think any right or wrong, its personal choice and more importantly personal medical opinion i think. they did ask me where i had read its ok and i read in coping with fatigue booklet so i will show that to chemo nurses tomorrow.,(back again as neutrophls plummeted right down!!!)
lots of love and cyber hugs Shar xxx
Hello there
I hope this helps - I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of 2009 and thankfully finished with chemo but I understand how hard it all is. I am also a psychologist and massage therapist in the middle of doing research into complementary therapies and hair loss with cancer patients. The current research is really on the side of having massage as their is no evidence that it spreads cancer that is why it is offered by cancer centres and on the increase. I had massage all of the time when I was having chemotherapy and it was offered by my cancer hospital and I have no quarms in saying go for it and enjoy. By the way if you are interested in talking to me further about your experiences let me know as I a still doing my research. All the best Bexy
