homeopathy or not? hi i really need some help. i cant seem to find any proper informaton on homeopathic treatments for people in remission. my mother is at present in remission but she has suffered quite badly form the effects of chemo- she has lost over 2 stones and was up until last month constantly vomitting has anyone else experienced these kind of post effects of treatment ? the doctors dont seem to be interested in actually fixxing the internal dynamics and balances but just constantly shoving food in her . ive contacted one of the homeopathic hospitals but they wont talk to me because i am not the patient and i cant seem to find any information about what it is they exactly offer so i can convince my mother to go to one.

are the homeopathic treatments on offer good for post effects of treatment

These side effects need investigating You don’t say what stage of cancer your mum has. Does she have primary breast cancer or has she been diagnosed with secondaries? Some people are sick during chemotherapy but many people aren’t because there are excellent anti emetic drugs available.

2 stone is a big weight loss and I think the reasons for this need investigating. I’d suggest that your mum should ask for help from her breast care team.

In my view there is no evidence that homeopathy works…though some people say it helps them. It won’t do any harm, but I think the underlying causes of your mum’s sickness and weight loss need to be looked at.

Best wishes

Jane

I agree with Jane. In my opinion 2 stone is a lot of weight to loose and that definately needs looking into. I feel that once conventional treatment/ investigations have been undertaken then by all means access the complementary route…my friend had accupuncture for similiar problems with good effect,

Patrice I don’t know what part of the country you live in, but Bristol has a Homeopathic Hospital which comes under the NHS Trust and their website gives some idea of what conditions they cover and referrals. This information might be of some help to you and your mother. It specifically mentions digestive and bowel problems.

I know there’s a lot of controversy about homeopathy - many doctors say that there’s no evidence it’s effective. Dr Elizabeth Thompson, the Lead Clinician at Bristol once came to speak to a support group I go to. She’s a conventionally trained doctor and told us that she started looking at Homeopathy from a very sceptical point of view, but was surprised to find that it seemed to work and that is why she is still involved in it. With the financial pressure on the NHS, I think the Homeopathic Hospital is always fending off funding cuts.

My view is that, if conventional medicine can’t resolve a problem, there’s nothing to be lost by exploring conventional therapies especially if they are provided by doctors who are also qualified in conventional medicine and financed by the NHS.

Have you told your mother’s doctors that you want to investigate Homeopathy if they can’t fix her problem? Might make them a bit more attentive.

Oops Typo Should have said

“My view is that, if conventional medicine can’t resolve a problem, there’s nothing to be lost by exploring COMPLEMENTARY therapies”
