Hormone meds link to cateracts

Has anyone any info on hormone driven cateracts = I’m on Anastrozole ( Nastroza ) and have been since 2011 - I’ve just been told I have cateracts in both eyes. Although i’m 64 I’ve always taken care of my eyes glasses, sunglass ( good quality ) not staring at the sun or bright lights and no family history so am wondering if the above meds might have triggered it. On the NHS site they do state that hormone meds might be a cause - but it’s new to me - anyone out there who has any further info I’d be grateful.

I’ve never heard of this before Lazydaisy, I’m 62 and already have one cataract (in an eye that is already blind through other reasons) so don’t want another in my good eye. I’m due to start Anastrazole shortly, so I’m off to do a bit of research. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

The fact we have been unaware makes me think the link is far from proven - but you do need to put your mind at rest . It would be unwise to for go your follow up treatment yet very wise to raise it with your Onc. My prognosis is good, I have 6 monthly checkups with a yearly mammogram so I’m in a good position to make an informed descion if there is some query that Nastroza has ‘encouraged’ cateracts to form. I know that my age 64 and that I worked in a classroom that was very bright twelve years ago for five years also are strong factors but if there is a chance Nastroza has caused it or can make the cateracts escalate I have some serious thinking to do . I’ll let you know how I get on at the hospital in July. Good luck with your research .

I haven’t been able to find much out other than what you told me, so I will mention it to my onco. But as I’m not seeing her until 16th July, I will probably forget. Still suffering from chemo brain. I have to go for a bone density scan on 26th June. Osteoporosis is one of my biggest fears. I have RA so I’m high risk for it anyway, and mum and gran both had it, so not very confident about not getting it myself. Oh well, I can always have more tablets to counteract it

I don’t know about Anastrazole, but tamoxifen is, I think, linked to cataracts. The Cancer Research website says eye problems can sometimes occur with tamoxifen.
good luck and best wishes,
