Since my cancer was estrogen receptive, I’m on Anastrazole, was on Letrozole, and this question is about aromasin/exemestane also. Does anyone know whether it is safe to take vitamins with these tablets? In the leaflets I’ve read and on websites, it is very clear that most vitamins are not safe to take with Chemotherapy. But they are less clear about Vitamins, and the doctors at the Oncology centre don’t seem to know. There was a similar thread two years ago about this but only about the latter tablets and I was wondering about all of them.
Hi Penny,
I took a multi-vitamin tablet all the way through chemo, my onco knew and didn’t say I shouldn’t have it. I’m currently on Tamoxifen but hope to go back on to anastrazole shortly. My onco sent me for a DEXA scan and because of bone thinning, I have Adcal +D3 prescribed. Many of us do. I also take Evening Primrose Oil, Omega 3, and Folic Acid.
Best wishes

I take ‘Calcichew D3’ (on prescription) to try to counteract bone-thinning effects of AI medication. I also take extra Vitamin D to ensure I give my body as much chance as possible to absorb the calcium - as recommended by rheumatologist and oncologist. Vit D tablets are pretty cheap, especially when on 3 for 2 offer at Boots.
I get periodic constipation which may be linked to the calcium tablets but kiwifruits and the odd dose of lactulose always get things moving.
