In my understanding, you can have tamoxifen after oophorectomy. Also, try exemestane. I couldn’t handle letrozole but I am doing much better on exemestane.
Hi Holly - I was on Letrozole for about 8 mos when the really uncomfortable side effects kicked in, random diarrhea, total body insane itching, muscle pain so bad that I could hardly get up from a seated/lying position or walk when once vertical. Finally decided that at my age (almost 83) I didn’t want the next ten years to be like this. I talked with oncology PA and she agreed. I quit Letrozole about 2 weeks ago. Feeling a little better, but I am relieved to learn from others that the side effects can go on for months even after stopping. I don’t think I will try another aromatase since they all sound the same. God bless those who tolerate it. All the best to you and others. Foxglove
Hi
Ive been in letrozole for 4 months.havi g terrible bone & joint pain besides other side effects.rang the breast care nurses told them they advised i can stop taking it for a month and see how i feel not taking it.am starting a diary she stays they might be able to give me another drug?
I’m pre-menopausal on tamoxifen and my oncologist said I’d stay on it even if I go through menopause in the next 5 years (which is likely as I’m 48). My risk of recurrence is low though so he felt the potential SE on an AI wouldn’t be worth the small additional benefit from an AI. I’ve been on tamoxifen for 3 weeks with no obvious side effects so far.
