Hi there
Anybody got any tips on how to get over the “horrible mouth taste” I’m struggling to drink water never mind eating food.
Pineapple or pineapple juice x
During chemo I was given pineapple sweets to suck on ,pineapple is really good .
I also drank coke ,can’t stand the smell or taste anymore
I got through a lot of fruit pastilles ice lollies… and also pear drops. I too found water tasted horrible - I tried countless alternatives and eventually found that I could manage blackcurrant oasis really well.
I hope this helps, its really tough
xx
Thanks for that tip I’ll certainly try it x
Coconut water worked for me after trying lots of options, but I know we all react differently. Good luck!
I couldn’t stomach pineapple (normally love it). I started off with Ribena, which was OK for a while, then orange squash, then lemon squash - I would get bottles of different flavoured drinks (single, small ready to drink bottles) to try to find something I could tolerate. As for food, for me, bran flakes with milk for breakfast, hard boiled eggs for lunch and a small jacket potato with cheese in the evening, or once I made tomato soup. I would try to get liquid wherever I could as like you, plain water tasted horrible. Ice lollies (I have Calippo in my freezer). Chilled fizzy lemon and lime (Tesco own brand), expensive punnets of melon from the supermarket (no energy or willingness to cut up a whole melon. Same with mango - OK once but horrible later! It is hard. I have thrown away so much in the way of food and drink in the last few weeks. I live on my own so there is no-one to finish what I can’t. You may find that what is acceptable this time is not the next. I have only just started drinking the ribena again as my drugs have changed and on my current one, my taste is not so bad as when on EC. All I can recommend is keep experimenting. x
Same! I started leaning more towards processed food as a temporary measure to cut down on waste.
When my taste went, unfortunately I would stand in the supermarket staring at food and never getting that “ooh I fancy that” feeling which made it more difficult. That is why I ended up sticking to the same things in the week following chemo as I knew I could tolerate them. Today, I bought a loaf of bread for the first time in a couple of months as butter tasted rancid after my first EC. I haven’t had the courage to try marmite again yet as I am worried that I will be put off forever from some of my favourite foods
Second Docetaxel next week, so hoping that this time, I can still keep my morning coffee which went along with a lot of favourite things during EC.
