Hospital admission

I appreciate this may seem a daft question. I have my op date and obviously will be taking in a few personal possessions with me, watch, bit of change, glasses and my phone etc What do I do with my phone etc when I have my op. Will it be safe. I know it’s a strange question but I will need it to contact family whilst waiting around. It’s one of those things that’s niggling at me. Thanks ladies for your time xx

Hi

The ward that I was in was secure, so that no one could enter except for staff. Also, they gave me a bag to put my belongings in when I went in for surgery and that was looked after by the staff.

Best wishes for your op. Xx

Bi Olly,
I put my things including my phone in a zipped bag. My stuff followed me around & I woke up to find my bag next to me in the cubicle. There are processess for this, so check with the staff on the day.

Hello

I would just take a bag with a zip so when you go to theatre you can put your phone, watch and rings in  and firmly close.

I was a day case and didn’t have a locker by the bed , but if you do you can store it all away.

When the time came I just wanted the operation to be over , so put my things in the bag and stopped worrying.

Best Wishes for the operation. It’s all made easier than you fear at the time.

Hi Ollybobs, I put my phone in a lockable drawer next to my bed just before I went down for my op and the nurse locked it for me and kept the key on her until I came back up. I wore my glasses down to the theatre and removed them just before I was put under and they gave them back to me as I came round. This must be a concern for most patients so I am sure they will have measures in place to ensure your things are safe. Michelle xx

Hi, I was a day case and didn’t take any personal belongings in. My hubby was told to phone in at a certain time, which he did , and then made arrangements to bring me home. I had a crossword book, pencil, lippy, hairbrush, wet wipes, small sponge bag ( which I didn’t use) but nothing valuable. Hubby brought in a cloth bag for my drain to go in. I must have been very convinced I was going home! X
