Hot + Cold drinks

Hot + Cold drinks Hi - I queried hot + cold drinks weird sensation with consultant today. Apparently tis with having mastectomy there’s less insulation on chest wall. Kinda reasonable + understandable when you think bout it - in a weird kinda way! Would appreciate any other comments or explanations

Hi Deb

I also find drinking a drink from fridge now a weird sensation - its like you can feel it moving down the tubes!! I now drink only room temp water and have gone off tea and coffee since having chemo. Another joy of BC.

Hi Deb and Clare,
I get it too but I had WLE.
Noticed it straight away after op.! Thought this is weird.
The surgeon went in right to my chest wall tho’

Kay

I get this with cold drinks. When the cold drink hits the point where it meets the scar line of the bilateral mastectomy, the ‘almost pain’ sensation runs along the scar line across the chest.

My surgeon said it is the reaction of the damaged nerve endings. He also said it is possible my scar will always react to cold weather. (blah!!!)

However I had to laugh when my sister told me I should wrap up more warmly this winter as I no longer had that layer of fat to protect me. LOL

Thanks all for replies. My sis thought I was windin her up when I told her - nice to know I’m not the only ‘weird’ one! lol
Nother question…kinda heard a few answers already but not entirely sure - ‘dog ear’??? is it jelly swellin under arm? - lil sticky-out bit where arm joins bod - or summit totally different?

Hi Deb
Thats another one, still suffering from seroma under arm,not dog ear but massssssssive tennis ball.
Its good to know other girls get weird drinkie feelin isnt it.
I hadnt even mentioned it to anybody and when i read your post it was like …yeah… i get that…
Get my seroma drained every week ,dont think its the same as what you are describing tho…

Kay

I think ‘dog ear’ is how they refer to an area at the end of your scar-line which has excess skin so it flops a bit - like a ‘dog-ear’

We used a lot of 'black humour in the early days to help us get through. On the last visit to hospital before my bilateral I told my husband that after the op he would have bigger breasts than I would. His response? ‘But don’t expect me to start wearing bras’ ROFL

Kay - some days it feels like a tennis ball, others I don’t really notice it’s there. BCN said dog ear and Cons said was he tells patients it can take up to 6 months for everythin to settle down + if it hasn’t by then, then tis there forever - woohoo another thing to adjust to!

Karval - Your sense of humour is brill! Seems the only way to get thru mosta this. Can remember tellin sis about lump…she’d been diagnosed with hole in lung earlier this year - we came to the conclusion she was deflating and I was inflating lol
Luvnhugs to you both xxxx
