Hot Flushes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone has to invent a thermostat for us lot.I’m driving my hubby mad throwing covers off, switching fan on ,then cuddling in as I’m cold!
I’m working with two lovely guys at work who get me hot/cold drinks when evr I’m either freezing or hot!

I can really understand what your going through. I went through chemo 6 sessions (FEC) in 2008. Have never seen a period since. My Oncologist did mention this would probably happen. Have also had really bad hot flushes ever since. Got worse once I started taking Tamoxifen last year. Only another 5 years of medication to go…
Good luck!!

Hi all, was feeling really guilty driving hubby mad with being hot/cold/hot/cold all night/day long. Relieved its not just me. My periods stopped after first chemo session and loads more meds to come so don’t know if they will ever come back. Can’t say they’d be missed. Hubby seems to find my hot flushes bizarre as he says I just feel clammy and don’t have a temperature.

Hi girls,

My hot/cold symptoms also started during chemo but has continued since being on tamoxifen. If it is any consolition either it does become slightly easier or our bodies get use to these horrible episodes as I now only wake about 3 times a night. I do find that wine and chocolate, which I should now be able to enjoy as no more chemo (couldn’t tolerate either whilst on it) do aggravate the symptoms. I also have an electric blanket on just my side of the bed which I can flick on and off when required which helps with the shivers.

Good luck to you all.

Hi, I finished chemo Jan 08. Periods had stopped after 1st chemo, and I had started hot flushes by the end… this continued and onc confirmed I was going through menopause… Then in Jan 09 the hot flushes eased considerably, and then… periods started again!! Onc confirmed it can take about a year from end of chemo for your body to recover. Glad the flushes have stopped, but not about getting periods again, and means I have to go through it all again sometime. I wasn’t on any hormone drugs etc as triple neg.

I was 50 when I started chemo and that was that for my periods (one blessing). I take 40mg of Megace (megestrol acetate) daily for flushes and it works really well. It’s a synthetic hormone (as we can’t have HRT) and as they’ve stopped making it in 40mg doses I have to cut a 160mg tab into quarters. Still at least it means one prescription last ages!!

Also cos I take it due to effects of cancer treatment I get free prescriptions - fill in a form at your GP surgery. I hope you all know we can get free Tamoxifen etc. too (not that I was eligible, my tumour was hormone neg.) The free scrip card includes all other medicines as well. I must admit I felt a bit guilty at first but then when I think of those MP’s…!
