How do the annual mammograms work?

Hi all

having just got to the end of active treatment, i want to be more prepared than I was when I got diagnosed (didn’t know a thing about BC or the treatments available).  I have a health and wellness coach, and want to work though with him what I think the trigger points are going to be.  I will ask my local breast service what the process is, but it thought it would be interesting to hear from those already experienced.  Questions are:

Is the mammo done at the hospital service or satallite clinic? I.e. The general pop service?

do they give you results there and then?

if they re-call you, do they give more explanation for re-call reason?

when is your annual date measured from? (I would quite like a year off now!)

Id like to think I am going to be level headed and on best behaviour, but…

best wishes.  Xxx

Hi Patricia,
I’ve just had my first annual mammo & review, other areas may vary. After being discharged from the oncologist, I was referred back to the surgeon for 5 year follow-up. I received my appointment with the surgeon not long after discharge for this month - diagnosed last Feb.
I received my appointment for the mammo for a month prior to my appointment with the surgeon. I was then told I would receive the results from the surgeon, as obviously, the mammo would need to be reported first.
The mammo was done at the hospital I saw the surgeon at.
Anyway, had the appt last week, all clear - yay! Registrar v nice, did a breast examination, asked how I was & said to contact the team if any worries “we’re here for you,” so a v nice & reassuring appointment.
So, that’s it for another year?

Yes, Patricia, in my area it was the month of diagnosis, but I was diagnosed & operated on within Feb last year. as Ruby says, there does seem to be variation in arrangements. I have read on here that in another
area, the follow-up mammo is done at 18 months.

Hi I had my first mammo after my treatment in march and got results 10 days later, I thought I would have got them straight away considering what we have been through but unfortunately not the waiting is the worst, but all good news thankfully, and I am very grateful, good luck to everyone waiting on there results xx

Sorry should have said my mammo was done a year after treatment and I know In Scotland you are followed up for 10 years with surgeon and 5 years with oncologist x
