How do you find out the cost of treatment?

Blummin eck finty, £270,000! Thank god for the NHS.

I knew about neulasta being expensive as my oncologist originally prescribed me the daily granocyte jabs but, when i still went neutrophenic, he told me that the bright side of that was that now i fulfilled the pct criteria for the one shot neulasta jab. That saved me 30 extra injections. It also saved 30 visits by district nurses to administer the jabs, but as this was out of a different budget it didnt seem to matter that the total nhs cost was probably more for the inferior granocyte than the more effective neulasta.

Anyway, i digress, i think the topic is really intetesting too, ta cm!

I know Vickie - but to be honest I was expecting it to be even more than that! (Although that figure doesn’t include a few things that were treated as side effects but with different consultants.) The two biggest ticket items - the Avastin and Cyberknife - wouldn’t have been available on the NHS, and they account for well over half of that.

I can probably find the current list prices for certain drugs if anyone is interested?

I had my treatment privately. My insurers (HSA) had a ceiling of £30,000 for cancer treatment which has now run out. I had a WLE, MX with an immediate LD recon and full clearance, 6 x EC chemo(at home) and 15 radiotherapy sessions plus 8 - 10 appointments with surgeon and onc, my 1st mammogram after diagnosis and a dexa scan. I had to pay for my lipofill op which was £2800. (not a great success)I’m now waiting for an appointment for a reduction on my good side. That will be done on the NHS fortunately. HSA sent me a copy invoice whenever they paid any bill. It’s incredible how the costs mount up.

I have had all the scans you can have(at my request) they have all been on NHS but to be honest all I have ever had after scans is worry and uncertainty - Scans in themselves do not give the full picture and scans show up everything - good, bad and indifferent - the problem is that whilst there is the technology and the skills of the doctors who read the scans - they are never sure on what the scan is showing - so whilst there is an upside in that you have a scan- the don’t really give you any more info and you can never really say that you are ‘clear’. I think the best they do is a ‘marker’ so that subsequently they can see any changes on previous scans.

Hi Jo, Yes pls. I would love to know how much the Avastin and Taxol I am having pls. Just out of interest.

Hi Sadie,
Haven’t got the prices of Avastin to hand but can probably find it later. The taxol prices are below, this is the current list price for it.

Docetaxol

JoC, thanks for the info, but where did you get hold of it?

There is a website called eMIMs which has the information but you can only get it if you are in the medical/pharmaceutical industry I think as you have to register for it.

Ah, that explains it. Thanks JoC.
