Following DX last year, I am due to go into hospital for a (risk-reducing) double MX and immediate recon on 24th August. Instead of LD or Tram recon I am having a relatively new procedure using pigskin/tissue and expander implants.
I have been told that I will be in hospital for between one and two weeks. I live two hours away so the surgeon is not keen for me to go home too soon in case of infection. I have also been told not to lift anything for up to six months.
I have a little boy who will be two in a couple of weeks and he is very strong and sturdy (takes after Daddy!). I am wondering realistically how long it will be before I can lift him, or cuddle him in, and I know that sadly many of you have been in the same position, so hope to hear from you.
Hi shenagh, I have no experience of this but wanted to wish you luck with the op and your recovery. Two year olds don’t do quiet still non jerky cuddles do they! Hope someone who can advise you sees this soon, vickie xxx
Sorry I can’t really help as I didn’t have recon after my mx and lymph clearance and I understand it’s a much bigger op.
I was told only 2 weeks not to lift anything heavy. I also have a 2 year old and was lifting her after less than a week, asking her to put her arms around my neck to help.
Hopefully someone’s who’s had a similar recon op can help you out. six months sounds like a long time! Also I was told I’d be in hospital for 5 days but was only there overnight, so I think the times they give you tend to err on the side of caution.
Hi Jane, thanks for that. I’ve seen some of your posts on other threads and wish you well. It’s hard doing this with a young family isn’t it, but they are what gets us through this c**p
