How long before the pain stops?

Hi

After suffering a very painful night, arm and shoulder I’m just wondering how long after mx and clearance does it take for the arm & shoulder to stop being painful. I know everyone is different, so its a broad spectrum question, I’m just so fed up that my arm hurts so much.

It’s stiffening up despite doing my exercises and the area across the scar really feels tight when I do the exercises. I grin and bear the pain at this point because I have to. But, during the night I didn’t know what to do with myself and spent a very restless and uncomfortable night.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks P xx

Hi Peacock, I dont know when you had your operation, mine was July last year, I did my excercises at first and then around December stopped as I thought all was OK. However since January, ive had such painful arms and shoulder and back - and also the not sleeping cos everytime I moved the pain would wake me up. I went to the GP a couple of weeks ago, and he prescribed painkillers (500g paracetamol and ibuforen) and also amitriptyine (which is for nerve pain- but also helps you sleep) there is a thread on here called worried and depressed that goes into it more. He also sent me for physio and the woman I am seeing at the breast clinic said to really massage my scars with bio oil to lessen the tightness. I didnt realise how important it was to keep on doing the excercises, but do now. So keep at it, and Ive been told it will get better. Good luck

Thanks Bessie, I too am massaging with almond oil and will carry on with the exercises. I am also having physio for my arm & shoulder movement so that tends to hurt rather a lot, but hopefully will be a bonus towards the end.

Keep at it, like you say and thanks again.

had my had on sat and am in agony no pain relief given very tearful and depressed when does it stop

forgot to say - I use the muscle pain spray on my neck and shoulders - it helps a bit (doesnt smell too good!)

Hi P,

Try cuddling a pillow, I find this comfortable when trying to sleep.
