How long do chemicals stay in body ?

Hi , just reading through a few other threads and people losing nails , lashes and brows way after, chemo is finished. I finished my chemo 2 weeks ago and and am wondering if I shouldnt expect too much in terms of things getting back to normal. I maybe naiively thought by the end of each cycle things would be back to a starting point again . Anyone a few months down the line who can tell me ?

thx cally

I’m 10months from last chemo.I think the actual chemicals are gone quite quickly but their effects can take many months to go completely although most things improve steadily after a month.I still have peripheral neuropathy, some aches and pains and get tired more easily than before however all these things are much better than they were.Love horace[Val]

I finished chemo 3 months ago.I did wonder how long it stayed in the body, i have the aches and pains but mostly in my joints. you do improve as the weeks go by, just a gradule process.

Yeah I’m 11 months after last chemo, still having herceptin, I have heard that the chemo can take 12 months to be completly be out of your system, still get aches & pains now but putting it down to the herceptin, arimidex & zoladex that I’m having.

Hi Cally,

I finished E-CMF chemo in Oct and at the time I asked how long the chemo would remain in my system for. The nurses at my chemo day centre said it takes about 6 weeks to get the chemo out of your system.

I do reckon this to be true as I was amazed at how quickly I felt ‘normal’ and more like my old self.

Take care,

I had last chemo 9th Jan, and am feeling pretty much back to normal already, just unfit, although still sleeping more than I used to. I do feel tired, but much of that I think is because i was quite fit and active before chemo, and then spent 4 months doing nothing, as I felt very drained and had no energy, so getting fit again will be gradual. My hair is growing back, I have eyelashes, and my nails have all stayed intact. On the whole, I feel like I’m doing ok…

HI , thanks everyone for your replies
I guess I also feel unfilt but probably due to the weight gain. Its a nice thought to know it’ll be out of your system though.
I went to a cookery workshop at the Haven in Fulham recently and the nutritionist there does a chemo detox workshop for after chemo . I cant make it in April but will try and get some info on it and share.

thx Cally x

Oh yeah, the weight gain. Bah. Put on over a stone and a half… thats going to take some shifting. As I really am SO unfit, aiming to start yoga or pilates to start me off again…or just walking…still have some pain in my hips when I’ve been sitting for a while.
Best of luck Cally, hope things soon get back on track for you.
