How long does it all take?????

Hi everyone,

Just wondering, if you were to have a complete mastectomy with total lymph node removal at the end of January, followed by Chemo & Radiation, how long should it all take??

I need to change dates on a flight by next week & have no idea how long it will all take?? Believe me, after all this, I NEED a flight away somewhere;)

Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed!!

Thanks

Hi Nordy

Well, a mx takes a few hours and most people go home in a few days. Chemo nrmally lasts 4-6 months depending on what flavour you have! It usually starts about 4-6 weeks after mx. Rads usually start within 4 weeks of finishing chemo and mostly last for 6 weeks. This is all assuming no delays, eg low bloods which delay chemo cycles.

There are issues with sun after chemo and rads which you may need to think about.

Wishing you all the best

Janey x

Hope all goes well for you.

Hmmm, I was diagnosed at the beginning of Sept 09, surgery 21st Sept and will finish chemo (6) & rads (3 weeks) by mid April, so that is 8 months in all. I will be having 18 herceptins though, at 3 weekly intervals, so I haven’t worked out where that takes me to…!

It will depend on how many chemo’s you will get (some have 6, some 8, and if you react badly some will be delayed), and how many weeks of rads too, as I think that varies. You’ll need to ask your oncologist really…

Thanks for the replies, i guess i’ll have to ask at my next visit.
