how long may i have to wait?

Hi there ladies, i was just wondering if anyone knows roughly how long i may need to wait before i could have a double mx with recon, the thing is i had a WLE in Feb 2010, then had 6 fec and 20 rads which finished in october i think, then i found out that i have the brca2 gene mutation and have an 80% chance of getting bc again just like my mum did.I had 2 nodes involved so i also had full node clearance. My other breast has recently been checked as it is full of lumps and bumps, which i am concered may in change to cancer.
The genetic specialist is sending to see the breast specialist and has recomended that i have riskreducing surgery and an ovary removed also, as had the rest of my womb etc removed at 28.
I think they may decide to get me to have the ovary removed first then have the double mx with recon at a leter date.
I wish i knew i was a brca2 gene carrier 10 months ago, i would have had the mx then as apossed to now.It was found in a blood sample my mother had given some years ago,and i only found out about it when i requested being seen agian by the genetic specialist.
Sorry for rambling on a bit.
Thank you for any input, Take care, Sandrae x

hi nanny

Can’t answer your questions, but just wanted to give you a friendly wave from this side of the BC fence. I’m sure other BRCA positive people will be along shortly.

hi, i am still waiting for my gene test results, had them done on the 1st june. i had a mastectomy in jan 10, and node clearance in feb 10. i enquired about a double mastectomy at the time of my op, due to very high family history, but they said i would have to wait until i get my results. if the results come back, i will too have risk reducing surgery. can i ask how long it took for your results to come back, and where you had them done. The waiting is awful, and i cant move on until i know one way or the other.
hope you are not left hanging around too long.
Sharon

Hi there Sharon,
Sorry havent been here for a couple of weeks, i got my results in 4 weeks, through the genetics team at Churchill hospital in Oxford, it was quick,i think ,as my mum who had bc twice, had given a blood sample a few years ago, before she died, and her sample had been tested an the brca2 gene found, so the genetics team new what mutation to look for in my blood. My 25 year old daughter gets her results on Monday coming, and my other daughter who is 19 is still not sure whether she wants to be tested, i do feel for them. I hope you get your results real soon, Take care, Sandrae x
