how long to heal?

hi everyone,2 weeks i had a lumpectomy to remove a lump which i now know is benign.a week after the op i visited my practice nurse for a wound check.the wound itself has healed nicely but found out i’m allergic to the dressing i was given(tegaderm).had a very sore square patch on my boob.since then the red patch has calmed, just very dry and discoloured.i’m still very bruised 2 weeks on and there is still a swelling and hardness under the scar site.i’m still very sore and finding it diffucult to sleep as i can’t get comfy.is it normal to take so long to heal or am i asking too much too soon.many thanks kelly x

Hi Kelly

I too am allergic to tagaderm the redness that caused seemed to take about 3 weeks to go completely because it made the skin blister.

I take it there is no oozing from the swollen scar site? and you do not have a temperature as these could indicate a possible infection in the site.

However 2 weeks is short time for the wound to completely heal its usually 3-4 weeks, would say be a little patient easier said than done I know especially when you are tired through lack of sleep.

Take care
Linda

Hi Kelly

Linda is right. It can take 4 plus weeks to heal properly. i too was allergic to the dressing and came up in a nice sqare patch of blisters. If you are not unwell and the scar isnt red and angry looking as in an infection, the hard lumps ares likely to be fluid which usually goes naturally and scar tissue. I still have really hard lumps from the core biopsy and my surgery which was done in February. Only in the last 2-3 weeks has these lumps started to get smaller. Hope this helps but as always, if worried see you GP - I did on numerous occasions that why I know what my lumpy bits are!!
