Hi, I am due to have lumpectomy and snb on Monday and just wondered how long after my opp I will have to wait before I start my four weeks radiotherapy . With Xmas looming, am worried it will start just before it all kicks off.
I think it differs re postcode basically and waiting times . I am now 6 weeks post mx and not starting rads till 19th dec !!!
Hope u are not as long

From when my wife was at that stage, I think they said they liked at least a month for the surgery to be reasonably healed. I think you are really looking at the new year.
Paul.
in my area it’s 6 weeks-manchester .
I had surgery late April, but didn’t start rads till mid July. I thought it would be 4-6 weeks after surgery, but that was when I saw the surgeon again, I then had an appointment with the oncologist, and only then had the radiotherapy planning session. If you’ve got something planned talk to the hospital or Breast Care Nurse in your area as they can defer it slightly, they will also give you an idea of how long it its likely to be before you start.
I saw the oncologist 2 weeks after surgery and he said it was normal to have the planning session 2 weeks later and then start 2 weeks after that, he also said that mine would be delayed a week to ensure I had healed properly. I don’t think you have much to worry about with it being this side of Christmas.
Hi Pentewan,
Have you had your op yet and how are you feeling? Had my WLE on 17th and am now being offered chemo. Not sure what to do. Are you in the same position?
Hi, I had my opp on Monday 28 th and had WLE and sentinel lymph node and one other removed as far as I know. Was given letter to bring home that said I had Grade 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Bit cross no one explained to me what it all means. Have to go back next Wednesday for results and treatment plan. All very scary. I have read so many horror stories about chemo, just don’t know how I would face that decision. Sore, bruised and swollen just now but getting better. How do we get our head around all this, never been ill or in hospital in my life and then something just creeps up and hits you round the head. What were you told you had when you had your results. Hope you are feeling better now. Please keep in touch, bye for now, Pentewan. (Val) xx
Hi I had exactly the same as you, grade 2 ductal cancer, had same op on 28th Oct, and was told that i would have radiotherapy after. I asked about chemo but don’t think they can tell you if you will need that until they have examined the tissue. I was lucky and my nodes where clear and it hadn’t spread, and I have just had my 8th radiotherapy session today, only 7 more to go , then start tamoxifen day after treatment ends, so fingers crossed for your results.
