how should I be feeling

I have been through my operation now awaiting to see about radiotherapy tomorrow. I have not been really felt upset or anything different since my
diagnosis is this normal?

I too, have been calm about most of this - I had my surgery 4th July. Judging by their reaction when I tell them, other people are more upset on my behalf than I am! Part of this is that we simply know more about it, and so are not so frightened by it. Lots of people still don’t realise that a very high proportion of women diagnosed with breast cancer go through treatment and on to live full lives. Also, I have great confidence in the team treating me. And what is ‘normal’ anyway? If you are worried that you will be overcome by a ‘dam burst’ of emotional upset, just make sure you have the BCC helpline number to hand, keep talking to your BC Nurse, and also have the number of the counselling service which covers your area.

I hope all goes well for you tomorrow.

I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago and go for my WLE and SNB next week and I can honestly say so far I am just taking things in my stride. It worries me that I’m not worried!!! Now this time next week I will probably need scrapped off the ceiling as I’ve never had an op before, but for the moment I feel absolutely at ease. I hope this isn’t a bad omen of worse things to come!!!

I was told 03/7/14 and after two biopsies I had WLE on the 24th July. I have recovered quickly from the operation the worst bit being the injection near the nipple. This stung a lot but only lasted a few minutes. I also had a fine wire inserted prior to the op. Please do not worry too much about your operation it will be over quickly.I was up and about the next day, do not overdo things enjoy the rest and pampering from the family.
