How soon after chemo surgery?

Due my last chemo next tuesday, cannot believe it! I am due to have surgery on March 13th which will be just over 4wks. I am worried this will be to soon after chemo and wondered how soon after chemo did others on this site have their op.

Greenbean,

I had WLE and axiliary clearance 4 weeks after finishing chemo. It seems to be fairly standard. It gives you time for your bloods to recover

Hi Alison
I had a lumpetomy (Nov) 4 weeks after my chemo finished and its taken me a lot longer to recover than I’d anticipated. I worked all through chemo, but towards the end was beginning to get tired, but now February am still struggling with lack of physical and mental energy. I’m getting better but its slow.

Hi Alison

I had a mastectomy exactly 3 weeks after chemo - that must be a record in terms of speed!
I was fine and I don’t think it made any difference that I’d had chemo not that long before the op.

Hi Alison,

I finished chemo on the 21st Dec 07 and had my mastectomy on 15 Jan 08, so between 3 - 4 weeks after surgery.

LIke Ruby, I’ve been fine - the op went well and I didn’t even have painkillers afterwards, which I normally take for the slightest twinge!

Thank you everyone for your comments. I feel so much happier now as it seems four weeks is about standard.
I am going to have WLE and axilary clearance.

Hi Alison,

Great to hear you know you next step, and not too far to go now! I had last chemo 9th Jan, surgery is 18th Feb, it would have been sooner (around 4 weeks) if surgeon hadn’t been on holiday.

Hi,

I had an WLE on 31st Dec 2007 which was 3wks after my last chemo! Then I had a mastectomy on the 21st Jan!

I suppose On how you and your body are coping!

Hope all goes well and you heal quickly and do the exercises they tell you to do!!

I had mastectomy about 3/4 weeks after 6 AC chemo. I was in hospital 3 nigths and recoverd quickly. Mine was in March too, in 2004.

I worked part the time through chemo and then took time off for surgery (and during subsequent chemo I had after surgery)
