How soon starting FEC after WLE & SNB

Hi lovely ladies,
Im starting my x6 FEC next tuesday (1stfeb) which will be just under 3 weeks of my WLE & SNB. Has anyone else started there chemo this soon?, may i add i decided to start asap, Im so scared of the unknown

Hi Donna- I don’t think that that is a particularly short interval: I only had 4 weeks between having total axillary clearance & staring chemotherapy and I actually had a wound infection- so it might otherwise have been less.

You are right about wanting to get on with it: the sooner you start, the sooner you finish!
Good luck
Mary

thankyou mary,
what chemo did you have? how are you feeling? xx

The NiCE guidelines state that chemo should start within 31 days of last surgery, so you’re fine. Sometimes a surgeon and onc might feel that if someone’s having problems with recovery from surgery, they need a little longer before starting. But if you’re up for it, get it started so it’s finished sooner.

Hi Donna

It’s 2 years now since I finished chemotherapy so it is but a distant memory now! (well, almost!)

I was 'lucky 'with FEC and hope you will be too. I lost my hair of course but otherwise escaped most of the bad side effects that some people experience. (I wasn’t so lucky with Tax- that was pretty horrible)

Do take all the medication you are given to counteract the side effects - and if it doesn’t work, DO sing out and let the hospital know. There are lots of things that may help you(see the tips on these threads on coping with chemotherapy) ) We are all different and experience chemotherapy differently- just don’t assume that it will be awful- it isn’t always
Good luck
Mary
