HRT withdrawal

Hi

Hope someone can identify with this thread as am struggling…

3 years ago, life was grim as I hit the peri-menopause. Constant bleeding, hot flashes about every 20 minutes and anxiety levels sky high. Got myself to a HRT consultant, one mirena coil and oestrogen patches later and life was transformed. Within days i felt great, looked great, had bags of energy, no hot flashes…

Then in January this year I was diagnosed with BC and told to immediately stopped the oestrogen as I am ER+ 8/8.

The withdrawals from the HRT are awful - hot flashes back big time, anxiety and mood swings all over.My libido has just disappeared completely.

Has anyone else gone through all this? If so, whatever did you do to manage?

Hot hugs

Hello pesteringpixie,
I can, unfortunately I am going through exactly the same. I was on HRT for 22yr had total hysterectomy at 32. All well until diagnosed with IBC had to stop immediately, ER positive7/8. I have since had WLE and SNB not clear margins so second op 5/3 .I have got worse so finally went to Dr’s. Dr prescribed me Clonidine they are for lowering blood pressure but are also used for flushes, They made me feel even worse, blood pressure dropped dangerously and had dry mouth all day so for me they were a no go.
I have just ordered some small magnets from Boots you clip them on your panties, I will let you kow how I get on. As you said it not only affect you but oh to I cant sleep and keep waking him where I am sweating so much. Take care hope you soo feel better

I had neo-adjuvant letrozole to shrink the cancers prior to surgery after 15 years of HRT (early complete hysterectomy)
Yes it was grim - instant menopause complete with brain-fade etc.
However because I am retired, I think that made it easier to cope with, just go my own pace etc.

these tips may help:

take tablet at night not morning

junk the memory foam mattress, they reflect heat back to your body

thin double duvet with an extra single one for ‘his’ side of the bed

thin layers of clothes not big jumpers - easy to shed a layer

buy a Chillow via Google - bit pricey but worth the money, they suck all the heat out of your body

coffee even decaff and alcohol set off my flushes

also I was changed to anastrozole after 15 months and that suits me better than letrozole, flushes are more of a glow and much rarer.

could your original HRT consultant offer advice, menopause clinic or something?

It is awful, and it’s like adding insult to injury, but it does seem to ease off over time…

hope this helps
