HI all
On saturday 6th October i walked the 1,344 metres up Ben Nevis for breast cancer care. Do i feel pleased with myself - Yes… It was hard work, a third of the way up the mist drew in & it got very cold, very wet and very, very windy towards the top, visibility was terrible, hence no views, but the feeling of getting to the top was amazing.
For those that don’t know me, 2 dx’s last one early this year, bilateral, chemo finished end of july.
Ben Nevis did not just challenge me physically, but mentally as well. I love walking, always have, peak distict, the lakes, anywere really, but this b****y disease seems to have stoped me in my tracks.
My first hurdle when i got to the hotel with my two friends was wig, or no wig as there would be 100 other people taking part, my friends said “you look better without” so the first time since losing my hair off it came!! I got a few looks, but that was it and boy did it feel good.
Then when walking up Ben one of the guides asked me and another girl why we were doing it, i had to think! I knew i was doing it raise money & as a personnal challenge to myself, but i was also doing it for all those people who’d replied to my posts, who listened when i wanted to rant, when i was scared or i needed advice.
All in all, if this website wasn’t here, i don’t think i would have got through the last year as well as i have.
I even went to take my daughter to school this morning with NO wig, did people stare - yes - do i care - no.There is a picture of me two thirds of the way down the mountain on www.Justgiving.com/loco and yes i am still smiling.

Hi Louise,
Well done,
You must have and extraordinary sense of self worth let alone satisfaction in fund raising. I agree you look fine without a wig. I never wore mine and had about the same amount of hair when I stopped wearing the headscarf.
I enjoy walking and climbing too. I am finding this ‘resting’ period a huge frustration.
Wishing you many many more climbing adventures.
Regards
Carol
Congratulations, Louise. What an achievement! I can’t believe you managed to find the strength to do it after all you’ve been through. What an inspiration to us all. You look great without your wig - welcome to the Commando Club!
Thanks for fund raising for BCC too - I too am very grateful indeed for this site.
