I have found a painful lumpy area

I have had lumpy breast and they are normally worse and painful when pregnant when pregnant but i am not expecting now (my youngest is 2 and i finished breast feeding her 6 months ago) but i have noticed a painful lumpy area in my left breast above my nipple and to the right.
It aches all the time and feels like a bruise/bruised area if it is touched.
I havent been to the doctors yet as i keep thinking it might just be one of my ‘‘normal lumps’’
My hubby is really bugging me to go to the GP but i think i am too scared to go
Does anyone think my hubby is over reacting or should i go check it out xxx

Hi bikergurl

Your hubby is right you need to get it checked. Please remember that most lumps turn out to be benign but it needs to be investigated to put your mind at rest. My youngest was 2 when I was dx. My breasts had changed so much during my pregnancies that I did not know them as well as I had, so when I noticed a lump it took me a while to admit that I was concerned. It was my OH who got sick of me mentioning it and made me go to the doc’s. We get lots of good news on this site, where people find that there are innocent reasons for changes in their breasts, but you have to have it checked out or you wll continue to worry. Good luck dx

It’s a no-brainer bikergurl. Get it checked. Like Midge says, it really is true that most lumps turn out to be something simple but that doesn’t mean we don’t need to get them checked. In the rare times it does turn out to be cancer the earlier it’s picked up the better the chance of a full recovery. You GP won’t think you’re wasting their time either.

Best of luck. Jan xx
