IBIS study
IBIS study —The IBIS-2 Study is a breast cancer prevention study which is currently recruiting women worldwide. The study is split into two parts:
- IBIS-2 DCIS
IBIS-2 DCIS will investigate which breast cancer treatment drug, anastrozole or tamoxifen, is better at preventing the disease from returning in women who have had an early type of breast cancer called Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). - IBIS-2 Prevention
IBIS-2 Prevention will see if a breast cancer treatment called anastrozole can help prevent breast cancer in women at high risk of the disease.
If you would like to find out whether you are eligible to take part in the IBIS-2 Prevention study
My question is How many Men will be included in this study?

Anastrazole Hi David
Already posted but I can tell that I am taking anastrazole - ARIMIDEX by its brand name and we know what that does to men!! Women also know how it can affect them.
Hope you got my other post.

Wow I got a reply I contacted the people running the test - to ask how many men would be tested
check out the reply…
Dear Mr. Wrigley,
Thank you for your email and interest in the IBIS-II trial. I was sorry to
hear that you were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003, and I hope that you
are now on your way to a full recovery.
The IBIS-II trial is exclusively a prevention trial. Therefore we only are
recruiting healthy volunteers who have not yet developed breast cancer. The
reason we have restricted the trial to post menopausal women is due to the
nature of drug we are investigating. Anastrozole, prevents oestrogen from
being developed from the conversion of other hormones in the fatty tissue of
these women. It operates on a very specific pathway, that is most relevant
to post menopausal women. Furthermore, our study is concentrating on
individuals who are at high risk of developing the disease. While I do not
dispute that breast cancer is equally distressing for both men and women,
breast cancer risk for men is very low, and their inclusion would compromise
the study results.
There is a strong interest in treating men, but I am afraid it would be a
different objective to the one set for the IBIS-II prevention trial.
I hope you find the above information helpful, and wish you the very best of
health for the future.
Kind regards and best wishes
We miss out again chaps.
Bill - yes got your post thanks
Cheers David W
Perhaps Hi David
perhaps we should ask them where all “strong interest” is and what is actually being done to turn the intererst into action.
I have a very strong interest in wi9nning the lottery but I’ll probably never see any action!
Dpeak soon.
