Has anyone had either of these reconstructions? I’m expecting to get the go ahead for one of them in the very near future and am trying to get as much info as possible. I’m three and a half years post mastectomy, am mostly excited about the outcome of more surgery but also understandably nervous. Any advice or shared experiences would be great.

I had an IGAP reconstruction in January last year as part of a preventative mastectomy so it was an immediate reconstruction. I have also had a DIEP and found the IGAP much quicker to recover from. The scar just under my bottom is barely visible and has never given me any trouble. My recon was a little flat on top, so my surgeon did some lipofilling on it last September. However, the cleavage part of the recon was excellent from day one and that was the area that was most important to me. I am very pleased with the result and would not hesitate in recommending the op to anyone.

I’m about to have an SGAP operation in just over a week’s time. Like you I’ve had plenty of time to think about it and explore. An SGAP is similar to an IGAP just taken from a different part of your butt - so the way I’m looking at it is a butt lift and I’ll make sure my plastic surgeon knows I have high expectations of what my butt should look like after!
