I came off HRT 5 months ago before being diagnosed with BC and haven’t had a period since ( I’m 60). Have been on Tamoxifen for nearly 4 weeks. Just gone to have a shower and have brown discharge on my pants and have had a couple days of backache. This has really scared me. Will phone GP tomorrow but has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Normski I came off HRT 10 months ago as soon as I was diagnosed with bc I had a mastectomy and chemo. I started Arimadex 2 months ago and I have got a bad discharge its not very nice. I have got a smear test booked for thursday so I will tell them about it then. I have read on other threads about people developing this when they come off HRT so I dont think its anything to worry about but as I said its not very nice. I was married at 16 so I was having sex very young and I was always bothered with a discharge the only time it stopped was when I was on the HRT I have been meaning to go to the doctor for the last few weeks but now Ive had a letter for a smear I will get it sorted then. There is a good treatment its called Flagyl I use to have to have it 3 or 4 times a year and it soon cleared it up. I know its quite worrying but I would think its because you are not taking the Hrt now. I do hope you get it sorted Love Linda xxxxx

I think it is linked to the HRT and Tamoxifen as every month since stopping HRT I have felt I was going to have a period but haven’t, you know what I mean with the back ache etc. Also having taken Tamoxifen for exactly one month makes me think its definitely hormonal. Your mail has made me feel better but will obviously mention it to GP as a precaution.
